Civil War History / Heritage Get Away
Whether you have a weekend or a few days or a week, South Court Inn has a great history and heritage getaway package for you.
We will provide you an autographed copy of Robert H. Moore’s book, Avenue of Armies: Civil War Sites and Stories of Luray and Page County, Virginia, to help you plan day-trips into the history of the Civil War in Page County, Virginia.
We’ll mail the book to you as soon as you make a reservation for this package. That way you can read it and plan an itinerary for daily forays into Civil War history. Interestingly enough, the first tour starts on South Court Street where South Court Inn is located and includes several private homes, the County Court House and administrative building right on South Court Street.
According to the author, Robert Moore, providing a handbook outlining the people, places and events surrounding the Civil War in Page County, “was one of the ideas in mind when I wrote Avenue of Armies: Civil War Sites and Stories of Luray and Page County, Virginia.”
The book provides “a set of thirteen self-guided tours and tourists may opt for a short tour that will take no more than 30 minutes, a longer tour of several hours, or may even take on the entire set of tours that would actually take them on a journey of nearly 300 miles…in Page County” and to the nearby New Market battlefield area.
